Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) Minister, Army Corps General Alvaro López Miera, officially welcomed the Belarusian defense minister at the El Cacahual Mausoleum, a historic site in Havana’s Boyeros neighborhood.
During the ceremony, Yrenin expressed his gratitude for the hospitality he has received since he arrived in Cuba, and stressed that despite distance and cultural and historic differences, the two countries are very similar.
He also noted the importance of defending concepts such as stability and peace under the current world conditions.
López Miera explained to Jrenin some details about the historic significance of El Cacahual, where a monument keeps the remains of Liberation Army Lieutenant General Antonio Maceo, his aide Francisco Gómez Toro (Panchito), and other Cuban patriots.
Belarusian Ambassador to Cuba Valery Baranovsky and diplomatic personnel accompanied the visitor.
Armed Forces chiefs attended the event on Cuba’s side.
As part of the agenda, Yrenin will also visit places of historic and cultural interest.
