On his X account, the head of State quoted the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, on January 28, 1990, regarding the need to keep Martí’s thoughts, ideas and virtues alive.
“This January 28, we say that Cuba needs the thoughts, ideas and virtues of Martí and Fidel more than ever,” Díaz-Canel stressed on social media.
Cuban leaders also recalled the life and work of the man known here as the Apostle of Independence, and praised the influence of his revolutionary legacy.
José Martí was a distinguished patriot, prominent politician, writer, thinker, teacher and journalist, author of texts with a revolutionary vision on the role of the people of the Americas against the growing dominance of the United States.
His high culture and special sensitivity allowed him to leave, at the age of 42, a vast written work of singular style and beauty that is an essential reference for all generations of Cubans.
