On his X account, the head of Venezuelan diplomacy noted that “as a reminder that, even amid adversities, we can continue to transform the world,” in reference to the 171st birthday of Cuba’s National Hero on Sunday.
Gil pointed out that Jose Marti, aka the Cuban Apostle, was a “great intellectual leader and passionate about reading,” and stressed that Marti advocated for the unity of all Cubans against Spanish oppression and “firmly believed in the need for free and sovereign Cuba.”
Gil meant that throughout his life, Martí had to deal with numerous challenges and sacrifices, but he never renounced his ideals.
“His courage, his commitment to justice and his vision of a better future for his country continue to inspire current and future generations,” Gil stressed.
At the Jose Marti Square, the Cuba-Venezuela Friendship and Mutual Solidarity Movement, lawmakers, youth leaders, representatives of political parties, social movements and Cuban diplomats paid tribute to Marti on Saturday night.
