More than 2,500 children rescued from child labor in Brazil

Brasilia, Jan 26 (Prensa Latina) A total of 2,564 children and adolescents were removed from child labor situations in Brazil in 2023, according to data from the Ministry of Labor and Employment, quoted today by the portal G1.

According to the Ministry, 1,518 supervisory actions were carried out through the Labor Fiscal Audit. Of the total rescued, 1,923 are boys and 641 girls.

Among the states audited, Mato Grosso do Sul led with 372 removals, followed by Minas Gerais with 326 cases, and Sao Paulo (203).

Most of those rescued, around 89 percent, were found in activities listed in the Worst Forms of Child Labor List, such as civil construction, sale of alcoholic beverages, garbage collection, mechanic workshops, car washing and itinerant commerce in public lands.

These exploiters were fined by the labor tax auditors and obliged to pay the fees owed to the children or adolescents in the course of the work performed.

All rescued child laborers were referred to the child and adolescent protection network, for inclusion in public social protection policies, in schools, among others.
