Cuba and China honor Apostle José Martí on his birth anniversary

China-Cuba-Marti-768x606
Beijing, Jan 26 (Prensa Latina) Cubans living in China, diplomats accredited here and Chinese friends of Cuba honored today the life and work of the "Apostle José Martí", on the occasion of the 171st anniversary of his birth.

At the Jintai Art Museum of this capital and in front of the sculpture of the National Hero of Cuba, the attendees paid tribute with flowers to the most universal of Cubans.

The Cuban ambassador to China, Alberto Blanco, explained that from a very young age Martí developed pro-independence ideals, suffered imprisonment and was deported from his country.

“His suit and tie were black, as an expression of permanent mourning for the enslaved homeland. He used to wear an iron ring, with the word Cuba engraved on it, made from the shackle that caused him so much pain and suffering,” he recalled.

The diplomatic chief also highlighted the qualities, the language, the oratory, the ability to persuade and unite all Cubans on the basis of a political program to fight for independence, against colonialism, slavery and injustice.

Among other aspects, Blanco underlined José Martí’s approach to what he called “Our America”, the “mestizo America”, that of the Indian, the black and the peasant.

On the other hand, the ambassador highlighted the visionary capacity of the Apostle to perceive the hegemonic and colonization intentions of the United States over Latin America and the Caribbean.
