A few hours ago, that volcano, which is the most visited by locals and tourists presented a steam eruption that exceeded 500 meters high, the highest recorded since 2019.

It is the most energetic in this new operating cycle, the Costa Rican Vulcanological and Seismological Observatory (OVSICORI ).

In view of that situation, it was decided as a preventive measure that only 56 people were able to be in the main viewpoint of the crater at once, and always using a safety helmet, Alejandro Picado, chair of the CNE, informed.

The number of people was determined according to the capacity of the anti-ballistic volcanic protection screens installed in the park, and a temporary closure will be maintained on the trail that connects the main viewpoint with the Botos Lagoon.
