According to spokesman Wang Wenbin, Wang Yi will visit Thailand from January 26th to 29th at the invitation of his Thai counterpart, Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara.

As agreed by China and the United States, the Chinese Foreign Minister will hold a new round of meetings with Sullivan in Bangkok, which will last until tomorrow, the spokesperson added.

The spokesman assured that the Chinese foreign minister will sign a permanent visa exemption agreement with Thailand, which is scheduled to come into force on March 1st.

Relations between Beijing and Washington went from confrontation to distension, after last November meeting between Presidents Xi Jinping and Joe Biden.

However, the two countries maintain significant disagreements on issues of technology, trade and human rights, while the United States continues meddling in China’s internal affairs, such as the Taiwan issue.

In particular, trade tensions rose in level in the last two weeks after new sanctions by the US on Chinese companies, which China considers as hegemonic and an economic coercion.
