In Ouanaminthe, barricades can still be seen not far from the BSAP base, at the city’s entrance, and a tense atmosphere can be perceived, but without the sound of firearms.
The police intervened promptly in that locality, where the members of the aforementioned group wanted to take over the Customs Office, and in other places they acted in the same way to prevent them from taking over State establishments.
The BSAP riot was a response to a first step by Prime Minister Ariel Henry’s Government, which could lead to establishing better control over those elements.
The BSAP went from being a simple forest guard to a considerable force of well-equipped troops at the service of political interests.
