The operation is headed by the Interior Minister Francisco Jimenez alongside 1,500 agents of the National Civil Police (PNC), 85 of the elite force of the Penitentiary System, 10 with biometric readers “MI3”, among others.
The authority posted on X that “in this fight against extortion we all play a role. The citizenry with their complaints, the telephone companies and the public force at the service of our people.”
This action is a clear message from President Bernardo Arevalo to the population, to the national and international media and to the whole world that Guatemala is moving forward, Jimenez noted.
Yesterday I said it and today I repeat it to the extortionists: “This is not going to stay like this,” he remarked in reference to a previous message to the nation after the death of a person from this scourge.
According to information provided by the Deputy Interior Minister Claudia Palencia so far 30 mobiles were found during the search of the Pavon prison.
“These security actions are framed within the work plan of the 100 days,” the head of the Interior Ministry told Emisoras Unidas.
