Located in the Azua southern province, this work will not only benefit thousands of Dominicans by guaranteeing the supply of drinking water, but will also boost economic growth, thus providing security and quietness to the territory, the president stated.

The Presidency’s website pointed out that it was executed by the Government through the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources and with the support of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration.

In addition to stressing its importance, especially for the inhabitants of the provinces of Bahoruco, Azua, Independencia and Barahona, the head of State noted that it represents a breakthrough in water security, and it is further vital for flood mitigation in communities of the southwest, historically affected by the flooding of the Yaque del Sur River.

Abinader pointed out that the reservoir has a capacity to store 350 million cubic meters of water extracted from the Yaque del Sur river.
