Buenos Aires, Jan 25 (Prensa Latina) A package of laws sent to Congress by Argentine President Javier Milei will be debated in the Chamber of Deputies next week, after the postponement of a special session scheduled for this Thursday.

Energically rejected by social, trade union, and political organizations with a general strike and mobilization on Wednesday, the bill entitled “Bases and Starting Points for the Freedom of the Argentines” consists of more than 600 articles.

The text declares an emergency in economic, security, defense, tariff, energy, health, and administrative matters until December 31, 2025.

The bill, also known as Omnibus Law, states that such term may be extended by the Executive Branch for a maximum two-year period and will privatize several state-owned companies and corporations.

It also eliminates primary, open, simultaneous, and compulsory elections and allows renegotiating or terminating public administration contracts.

According to Página 12, La Libertad Avanza (Liberty Advances-LLA) did not have the necessary support despite achieving a qualified opinion early Wednesday and decided to postpone the debate until Tuesday, January 30, to negotiate possible changes to the text with the governors and allied legislators.
