During a meeting with Dominican communicators, Arzuaga highlighted the importance of Prensa Latina (PL), which was founded in the context of the event in which the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, denounced the media attacks against Cuba and spoke of the need to have another alternative, away from manipulation, to make the truth known.
The diplomat explained that the New Operation Truth Forum was held in Havana, with the attendance of about 60 information professionals from some 30 nations.
Before the screening of the documentary “Nueva Operación Verdad” (New Operation Truth), produced by Prensa Latina Television, PL correspondent in the Dominican Republic, Mariela Pérez Valenzuela, explained that the news agency emerged a few months after Operation Truth, on June 16, 1959.
Valenzuela recalled its founder and first director, Argentine journalist Jorge Ricardo Masetti, and mentioned other names in Latin American journalism, including Rodolfo Walsh, Gabriel García Márquez, and Juan Marrero.
She stated that Prensa Latina will celebrate the 65th anniversary of its foundation on June 16, faithful to its principles against lies and disinformation.
