Authorities in Colombia working to put out forest fires

Bogota, Jan 25 (Prensa Latina) Colombian authorities are working to put out the fires that have broken out in the country in the last few days, especially in the eastern hills of this capital.

President Gustavo Petro affirmed on Wednesday evening that all Air Force equipment is being used to extinguish fires in dozens of places in the country.

The Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology, and Environmental Studies (IDEAM) forecasted that the heat crisis will extend throughout February and a part of March.

According to the Ministry of Defense, a UH-60 helicopter of the Colombian Air Force flew to Carolina del Príncipe, in Antioquia department, with the Bambi Bucket system to help extinguish the fire near the Miraflores dam.

Petro added that the National Disaster Risk Management System is activated to support forest fire-extinguishing operations, mainly caused by the high temperatures brought by the El Niño phenomenon.
