Arce arrived at noon along with Vice President David Choquehuanca and Minister of the Presidency Maria Nela Prada to participate in this traditional festival, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2017 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Exhibitors welcomed the authorities, and as a gesture of appreciation and respect, the local artisans presented them with symbolic gifts and an Ekeko (Aymara god of abundance and fertility).
The Alasita Fair (which meaning in Aymara is buy me) is a tradition in the city of La Paz that dates back to ancient traditions of that native community, and is opened every January 24 at 12:00 Bolivian time.
