New bills to curb insecurity in Costa Rica

San José, Jan 24 (Prensa Latina) A package of ten new bills to end the insecurity that exists in Costa Rica today will go through its approval in Parliament to become laws of the Republic soon.

The highest representatives of the judiciary and the legislature submitted to President Rodrigo Chaves on Tuesday one of these initiatives to revoke Costa Rican nationality to foreigners who incur in serious crimes such as drug trafficking and organized crime, and they could even be extradited.

Another of the new initiatives is aimed at reformulating the stipulations regarding preventive imprisonment, so that those who commit dangerous crimes remain in prison.

In addition to these, there is a bill to confront child hitmen to dismantle organizations that recruit minors, the reforms on the law of weapons and explosives, the intervention in communications, electronic monitoring and the drop-by-drop loans, among the most significant ones.

President Chaves praised the progress of the debates at commission launched on January 8 with the highest representatives of the branches of government, as well as Attorney General Carlo Diaz and Minister of the Presidency Natalia Diaz.
