In statements to the press from the United Nations headquarters in New York, the Foreign Minister assured that negotiations between Hamas and Israel “distract” attention from the bottom of the problem: to establish an immediate cease-fire.
The creation of a Palestinian State with borders set earlier in 1967 and a capital in East Jerusalem is the only way out to comply with the decisions of the Security Council and the UN General Assembly, the FM added.
After having met on Wednesday with ambassadors and permanent representatives of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the head of Russian diplomacy remarked on the prominence of those countries as regional players in the conflict.
“They are very determined in their intention to have an official decision on the creation of a Palestinian State. And negotiations should begin accompanied by neutral and effective mediators,” the authority told an overcrowded press room.
The initiative to create a mediation mechanism and the convening of an international conference on the Palestinian issue should be taken first by the countries of the region and, most of all, by the League of Arab States, the FM pointed out.
