Cuba´s BNCJM announces the Reading Marti Contest winners

Havana, Jan 24 (Prensa Latina) Cuba’s Jose Marti National Library (BNCJM) announced on Wednesday at a press conference the winners of the 24th edition of the Reading Marti Contest held annually in the country.

The event has been held since 1998 as a tribute to Jose Marti’s birth anniversary, Cuba’s National Hero, on January 28, 1853, and is one of the most prestigious children’s literary domestic competitions.

For the contest, participants are divided into four levels according to their level of schooling.

Results showed this time those prize-winners were from the following levels of schooling: nine from primary school, ten from high school, and six from university.

Those awarded are students from provinces across the country, specifically from Cienfuegos, Camagüey, Holguin, Villa Clara, Las Tunas, Artemisa, Pinar del Rio, Ciego de Avila, Matanzas and Havana.

For the first time ever, the Jorge Juan Lozano Ros Award had been granted, aimed at personalities, librarians, teachers, institutions and projects that carry out extensive labor in the promotion of Marti’s work.

In addition, other special awards were given to relevant scholars of Marti’s work, in order to boost the reading and study of the texts of Cuba’s National Hero.

Eddy Rodriguez Garcet, deputy director of the BNCJM, urged those interested in participating in the 25th edition of the event to send their works before June 1, 2024.

Regarding the Reading Marti 2024 contest, the director of the Cuban institution detailed that, as in previous years, works will be delivered to the municipal and provincial school or public libraries in each territory.

Requirements will be available on the center’s website and on its social media, while the call for entries must reach educational institutions across the country.
