President of Costa Rica to analyze security issues

San José, Jan 23 (Prensa Latina) President Rodrigo Chaves will hold a meeting with the heads of the judicial and legislative branches, focused on security, one of the main issues that worries Costa Ricans.

The authorities’ debates are focused on how insecurity affects the inhabitants of Costa Rica, and how to stop the unprecedented wave of homicides that occurred in 2023.

A new commission comprising representatives of the powers of the State has been working since last December to reformulate and direct the laws to confront this phenomenon, making them more expeditious, in accordance with the new times.

The Minister of the Presidency, Natalia Díaz, assessed these analyses as positive on Monday and explained that, during the work tables conceived for this purpose, several bills that are advancing successfully were discussed.

Six work sessions have been held Since last January 8TH, and the one for preventive detention is almost ready, so that those who commit dangerous crimes remain in prison.

Added to these is a bill to combat hiring children as hitmen in order to dismantle organizations recruiting minors, and another on nationality revocation of foreigners and who can be extradited when committing crimes such as drug trafficking, terrorism or money laundering.

Díaz specified that they are working on reforms on the law on weapons and explosives, intervention in communications, electronic monitoring and drop-by-drop loans. He also announced that they are engaged in the presentation of the report to the supreme powers and the subsequent analysis with the faction heads of the Legislative Assembly for rapid approval.
