Kidnappings make headlines again in Haiti

Port-au-Prince, Jan 23 (Prensa Latina) Kidnappings make headlines again in Haiti, where a wave of incidents adds to the fears of the population who suffer the rigors of the economic, political, and social crisis.

The highway linking Carrefour Joffe and Port-de-Paix is a real threat to the lives of travelers, who can also be robbed and raped.

Transporters lose the goods they transport and even their trucks.

Pope Francis expressed before tens of thousands of worshippers gathered at St. Peter’s Square on Sunday: “I learned with sadness the kidnapping in Haiti on January 19 of six nuns of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Anna by criminal gangs, along with a teacher and the driver of the bus, in which they were traveling on a humanitarian mission.

Dr. Ardouin Louis-Charles, secretary general of the Haitian Medical Association, denounced that the existing problems in the country’s health sector add to the damage caused by armed gangs when they kidnap doctors.
