At a press conference with local media, Abinader pointed out that the Dominican Republic has the security protocols to deal with setbacks, and recalled that the problems in the neighboring nation are constant, so that on this side, conditions exist to keep control on the border and peace in the national territory.
The security crisis in Port-au-Prince was fueled this weekend when armed men assassinated Haitian Vice Consul in Dajabón Claude Joazard, who was also a candidate for senator and mayor.
Regarding the perimeter fence that the Dominican Republic is erecting on the border with Haiti, the president said that it should be ready in the next two months.
“The perimeter fence is practically ready, there are some details that are being worked on,” noted the president, who recalled that it comprises four areas: Dajabón, Jimaní, Elías Piña and Pedernales.
Last October, Abinader inaugurated the first section of the fence, which was designed to stop the trafficking of migrants, drugs and arms.
