Cuban Museum of Universal Art exhibits valuable collection on Mexico

Havana, Jan 23 (Prensa Latina) The Universal Art Building of the Cuban Museum of Fine Arts is exhibiting a valuable exhibition on Mexico, consisting of paintings, drawings and engravings that belong to the collections of that institution.

The exhibition, named “Four Hundred Years of Mexican Art in the Collections of the National Museum of Fine Arts,” brought to light works organized by dates that make up the collections of Latin American and International Contemporary Art.

The public can enjoy creations by major artists of the Novo-Hispanic plastic arts from the 18th century and world renown artists, such as José Mariano Hernández, Miguel de Herrera, José de Páez and José Medina.

The hall that keps the contemporary segment shows artworks by José Clemente Orozco, Diego Rivera, José David Alfaro Siqueiros, José Luis Cuevas, as well as pieces by Manuel Felguérez and José Guadalupe Posada.

According to curators Yanet Berto and Margarita Gonzalez, “the biggest merit of the exhibition lies in the dissemination of plastic art by our brother country, acquired by the Cuban museum at different times, in different forms and from different origins, as well as the possibility of showing part of this heritage with a discourse referring to the Mexican nationality of the artworks.
