The media offensive against the opposition comes just 12 days before the presidential and Legislative Assembly elections in El Salvador, in which the country is expected to reach a new record of days without homicides to ratify the progress regarding the population’s security.
Early this morning, the National Civil Police (PNC) reported that the 22nd day passed without gang-related murders to approach the twenty-second on the way to breaking the record for most days without gang-related deaths in a month.
In 2023, authorities said the homicide rate dropped to 0.4 per 100,000 people after El Salvador was one of the most insecure and violent nations in the world when, for example, the figure in 2015 was 106.82 per 100,000 inhabitants.
The security issue, undoubtedly the greatest success of Bukele’s Government, is the subject of a great propaganda display when the media and experts warn of alleged risks if the opposition wins the majority in the Legislative Assembly, which would allegedly allow the return of gangs to the streets.
