Sixth Cycle of dialogues for peace in Colombia installed in Cuba

Havana, Jan 22 (Prensa Latina) The Sixth Cycle of the Peace Dialogue Table between the government of Colombia and the National Liberation Army (ELN) was installed today in this capital, an official source announced.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez, on his X social network account, where he welcomed the delegations of the Colombian executive and the ELN contender.

The Cuban Foreign Minister ratified the commitment of the Caribbean island to the peace of that South American nation, in its role as Guarantor State of that process.

On the matter, Rodríguez spoke in Uganda with his counterparts from Venezuela, Yván Gil, and from Nicaragua, Denis Moncada, in the context of the recently concluded summit of the Non-Aligned Movement and the Southern Summit (Group of 77 and China).

We will continue to advocate for the Latin American and Caribbean brotherhood and for the defense of the right to free self-determination of our peoples, wrote the Cuban Foreign Minister.

On the social network itself, the ELN delegation expressed its expectations of advancing in the peace dialogues and “getting closer to the transformations that Colombia needs.”

According to the representatives of that guerrilla, the only possibility of building peace in that nation lies in bringing about the changes that the country demands.

In May 2023, Havana hosted the Third Cycle of the Peace Dialogue Table between these belligerent forces, in an armed conflict that exceeds 50 years.

The Government of Colombian President Gustavo Petro has proposed to definitely settle the military confrontation with the consensus of multiple political actors in the country and the international community.
