The diplomat will carry out an extensive program of activities in India until January 26th, which includes talks with the Indian Foreign Minister on key multilateral issues of mutual interest, according to diplomatic sources.
An official statement expresses that this visit to India represents a unique opportunity to strengthen ties between New Delhi and the United Nations and especially with the General Assembly, the most representative body of the UN system, .
Discussions during the visit will include India’s call to reform the United Nations, particularly the Security Council, to make it more equitable and representative with a view to improving the representation of developing countries, the note added.
Francis’ presence in India will also be an opportunity to enhance collaboration with the United, based on Indian priorities, as well as the challenges facing the Global South, the Ministry of External Affairs asserted.
