The event was organized by the Latin American News Agency Prensa Latina and brings together representatives from 30 countries in Havana to discuss current communication and its role in the transformation of societies.
On Monday, participants toured the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology to witness the efforts being made by Cuba, a blockaded nation, to develop its biopharmaceutical industry. They also listened to the intervention of the deputy general director of the department attending the United States in the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Johana Tablada, to update the participants in the forum on Washington’s hostile policy against Cuba.
During the day, one of the panels will deal with “News agencies in the hypermedia era: from cable dispatch to multimedia news,” which will feature the intervention of Prensa Latina President Luis Enrique González.
There will also be a panel on “The New World Information Order, a pending challenge in the 21st century,” with speeches by scholars from Lebanon, Portugal and other nations.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel assured at the opening day of the forum on Sunday that in every place where there is an alternative media project to the hegemonic model imposed by the West, there is an active Operation Truth.
This international conference celebrates the 65th anniversary of the original Operation Truth, convened by Fidel Castro Ruz, and the subsequent creation of Prensa Latina news agency.
