According to David Carrasco, director of the Bayano Digital newspaper, Prensa Latina succeeded in showing that it is really possible to develop unitary projects in favor of the hope of the peoples by generating truthful, effective and high-impact news.
“Amid hard times like the ones we are currently facing up, where a third world war is probably drawing near, it is critical that the peoples be informed, do not fall into temptations of conflicts and bet on projects that unite the peoples through effective consensus, in favor of a humanity that must survive the horror that is currently being seen, for example, in Gaza,” Carrasco added.
Regarding Palestine, Carrasco said, the aggressors enjoy terrible impunity, without the UN finding a way to stop such a barbarity.
The peoples, especially in Latin America, need to be unified in alternative projects, which not only involve the mainstream media outlets, but also recognize the hard work done and truth found through community workers who fight for a better world.
Taking into account the global context, Carrasco championed the pressing need to hold events such as the New Operation Truth International Forum in Havana.
These meetings, he pointed out, contribute to establishing lasting links between social movements, the people who work directly in the communication field and in social and human development projects that have a huge impact on the formation of the Latin American conscience required by peoples in order to move forward.
“A reflection setting of this kind undoubtedly allows us for sharing insights, but it also generates voices in favor of the necessary consensus in the struggle for news and against disinformation created by the great centers of power to try to annul peoples´ hopes who seek peace and liberation,” Carrasco claimed.
Carrasco also defended the existence of alternative media including the one he leads, which he valued as a necessary setting for young people to be oriented and at the same time to feedback those projects requiring healthy voices, more than anything else, committed to the development effort that can be undertaken in coming decades.
The New Operation Truth International Conference is being held from Sunday through Monday at the Royalton Havana Hotel with the attendance of journalist from some thirty countries.
