Costa Rica to attend UN Economic Council meeting in Chile

San José, Jan 22 (Prensa Latina) Costa Rica will participate in the Special Meeting of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations General Assembly to be held tomorrow in Chile, the Foreign Ministry announced.

With the purpose of being part of the dialogue that seeks the reduction of poverty and social development, Costa Rica will participate in the meeting to promote economic, social and international cooperation and development, according to the press release.

Under the theme The Future of Work: Towards a Productive, Inclusive and Sustainable Global Society, the meeting will seek to generate policy recommendations to take advantage of the opportunities offered by changes in the labor market and manage the challenges they pose for decent work.

Another objective will be to explore the opportunities and limitations of technological advances and digitalization, including artificial intelligence, its impact on the labor market and the challenges of the digital divide, he highlights.

Ambassador Alejandro Solano, Vice Minister of Multilateral Affairs, who heads the national delegation, will participate in the agenda of plenary sessions and interactive round tables with experts, in which there will be dialogue with representatives of the Member States and other interested parties on each topic.

The meeting, which will take into account specific groups such as women, youth and migrants, will also seek to identify policy options to promote the acquisition of skills, to increase resilience and adaptation to labor transitions, in order to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals.

The purpose is to generate a summary document to serve as input to the 2024 High Level Political Forum (HLPF), and for the Summit of the Future; and the proposed 2025 World Social Summit.
