“We recall Brazil’s historical, consistent and unequivocal support to the one-China principle,” Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira said in a joint statement with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, who paid a brief official visit to Brazil.
Beijing always reiterates that Taiwan is part of China’s territory and mentions international legal documents that support the island’s legal status.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning recently stressed that the outcome of the elections in that region, in which a nationalist won, does not change the general consensus of the world community to adhere to the principle of one China.
At the Itamaraty Palace, the Foreign Ministry’s headquarters, Vieira noted that the fruitful meeting with his Chinese counterpart is a segment of a series of high-level meetings throughout 2024, to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
