Panamanian workers advocate for defending participatory democracy

Panama City, Jan 20 (Prensa Latina) The National Workers Central of Panama (CNTP) today rejected the representative democracy that neoliberal models, such as the one this country is following, far from the elementary needs of the population.

In its most recent editorial, the trade union organization asserted that this practice is used by politicians to ensure their status in power with representatives of local governments, councilors, mayors, and ranges from the National Assembly (parliament) to the Presidency.

“Representative Democracy is a lie, a circus that generates corruption and favoritism through its arms or movements of Political Parties. In the last 30 years those who have emerged as President, except in few cases, have won with less than 35 percent, legal but illegitimate”, the text points out.

For the CNTP it is key to establish true democracy, a participatory democracy, which guarantees the protection of security and the opening of new political, diplomatic and commercial relations with other countries of the world.

In this way, the message points out, the healthy protection of the environmental and ecological system could be possible, and a true transformation of health and education, as well as an economic, human, sustainable and friendly development with nature.
