Bolivian Health Minister urges to vaccinate children

La Paz, Jan 20 (La Paz) With the report of 6,670 positive Covid-19 cases on Friday, Bolivian Minister of Health María Renée Castro urged parents to complete the regular vaccination schedule for their children.

Quoted in an institutional bulletin, the Minister noted that in the second week of 2024, the highest number of contagions were reported in Santa Cruz (5,153), Cochabamba (619) and La Paz (284).

“The first way to fight Covid-19 will be vaccination, we urge parents to vaccinate all children at home against Covid-19, so that they can return safely to school,” Castro said.

She explained that it is not only important to be immunized against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus that causes Covid-19, but also against all those diseases included in the regular schedule.

Simultaneously, she added, schools must take the biosecurity measures established in a joint resolution from the ministries of Health and Education in 2023.

She ratified the validity of a safe return to school protocol with measures that include the use of facemasks, frequent hand washing and disinfection, and the creation of educational community commissions to ensure its implementation.

In this context, the minister recalled that the variants currently circulating in the country and in the rest of the world are transmitted easily, but they have a less impact on symptomatic cases.
