Thirteen students died and another was seriously injured in a fire that took place in a school dormitory in Fangcheng county, Nanyang city, in the central province of Henan.
As reported by Xinhua news agency, on Friday night the local fire department received an alarm about the fire, quickly arrived at the scene and extinguished the flames about 40 minutes after the call.
At the time of the fire, the dormitory housed approximately 30 boarding students, 16 of whom were successfully evacuated.
More than 600 kilometers away to the south, in Jiangsu province, a dust explosion in a production workshop of a metal products company in Changzhou killed eight people and injured eight others.
Investigations at both sites are still ongoing, and follow-ups to these accidents.
Dust explosion occurs when fine dust particles in the air reach a flammable concentration and come into contact with an ignition source, such as a spark or open flame.
