Relatives of escaped drug trafficker arrive in Ecuador

Quito, Jan 19 (Prensa Latina) Relatives of Ecuadorian drug trafficker Adolfo Macías (Fito), leader of Los Choneros gang who escaped from a prison in Guayaquil, arrived in that coastal city after being deported from Argentina.

Local media reported that a plane of the Argentine Air Force (FAE) landed at the military base of the coastal city, located in the province of Guayas, around 09:30 local time, guarded by two Ecuadorian aircraft.

Although there is no statement from the Ecuadorian authorities on the matter, the national press quotes the Argentinean media Página 12 and La Voz, which report that among those arrested are the wife, three children of the drug trafficker, a nephew, a domestic worker and a family friend.

Photos and videos of the operation carried out in a condominium in the province of Córdoba are also circulating on social media.

The leader of one of the most dangerous drug trafficking groups in Ecuador has been on the run since Sunday, January 7, when he was transferred to a maximum security prison and was not in his cell.

As a result of this event, a series of violent acts began in detention centers and in the streets, such as explosions, police kidnappings and an attack on the TC Televisión channel.

The Ecuadorian president, Daniel Noboa, affirmed that he will not negotiate with terrorists, as he called the members of criminal gangs that threaten the tranquility of the country.

Ecuador is currently under a state of emergency and the president decreed the existence of an internal armed conflict, measures with which he declared war on criminal organizations associated with drug trafficking.
