Cuba and Uganda strengthen cooperation and ties of friendship

Kampala, Jan 19 (Prensa Latina) Cuba and Uganda strengthened bilateral cooperation and ties of friendship with new agreements signed during the visit of the vice president, Salvador Valdés, and his reception by President of Uganda Yoweri K. Museveni.

At the meeting, held on Thursday, Valdés conveyed an affectionate greeting on behalf of Raúl Castro and President Díaz-Canel, to the African head of state. He also congratulated Uganda for assuming the pro tempore presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the Group of 77 plus China. He also and made Cuban experience available to the current pro tempore presidency.

Museveni, in turn, referred to Fidel Castro and his close relationship with the people of Africa, where he left a benchmark mark. He highlighted that Fidel was the architect of bringing Cuba’s hand of solidarity in health matters to the continent.

Prior to the dialogue with the Ugandan president, Valdés spoke with his counterpart Jessica Alupo, with whom he shared the interest in strengthening the existing ties of collaboration.

Both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Promotion of Countertrade, a document that includes topics such as food and biotechnology.

The director of Economic and Trade Policy with Africa and the Middle East of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment of Cuba, Sergio Espinosa, said that this meeting is a sign of the willingness to continue strengthening economic, trade and cooperation relations.

During the exchange, the officials also addressed the excellent state of relations between the two countries and recalled the vice president’s recent visit to Havana, when they reopened the Ugandan embassy in Cuba.
