UN condemns killing of Ecuadorian Prosecutor Suaréz

United Nations, Jan 18 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations (UN) on Thursday strongly condemned the assassination of Prosecutor César Suárez, in Guayaquil, Ecuador, who was in charge of terrorism charges brought against 11 criminals who assaulted the TC Televisión channel last week.

The UN Secretary-General (UNSG) António Guterres condemned the incident while reiterating his deep concern for violence situation in Ecuador, considered by President Daniel Noboa as an internal armed conflict.

Guterres offered his heartfelt condolences to relatives and friends of the prosecutor who was shot death on Wednesday while he was heading to a hearing in north Guayaquil.

After Tuesday´s attack on TC Televisión channel, January 9, Suarez took the process for terrorism.

As a result of this executive decree, joint military and police operations were intensified, resulting in nearly 2,000 arrests, including over 150 apprehended for committing terrorism crimes.
