Results published after lead contamination alert in Ecuador

Quito, Jan 18 (Prensa Latina) The National Agency of Regulation, Control and Sanitary Surveillance (Arcsa) published results of analysis made to processed foods today in Ecuador, following the alert of lead contamination in some products.

Arcsa made public the list of safe and unfit foods for consumption in Ecuador, after being analyzed by the scientific institution.

Among the products that comply with the safety analysis, according to the entity are brands of garlic powder, organic fruit compotes, ground turmeric, cinnamon powder, sausages, figs, protein bars, food supplements, oatmeal and black tea.

Meanwhile, Embutidos Oro’s type I blood sausage, Bakels cone premix and Doña Jana ground nutmeg brands are among those unfit for consumption.

In December 2023, Ecuador activated the alerts after detecting high levels of lead in products containing cinnamon that are manufactured here.

According to laboratory studies, apple fruit puree with cinnamon, Wanabana brand tropical fruit puree, Weis brand apple porridge with cinnamon, and another product of the same type from Schnucks, are among the contaminated products.
