Foreign ministers of Brazil and China to enhance bilateral trade

Brasilia, Jan 18 (Prensa Latina) The Foreign Ministers of Brazil, Mauro Vieira, and China, Wang Yi, will meet on Friday in Brasilia to address bilateral cooperation in trade, investments and science, technology and innovation.

Official circles confirmed that Wang will make a 48-hour official visit to Brazil and will be received this Thursday by Vieira and the special advisor to the Presidency, Celso Amorim.

Both foreign ministers will co-chair the 4th Meeting of the Brazil-China Global Strategic Dialogue, in which bilateral, multilateral and regional issues will be discussed, including the Brazilian presidency of the G20 and Global governance reform.

China has been Brazil’s largest trading partner since 2009 and one of the main sources of investments.

According to the Foreign Ministry statement, in 2023, bilateral trade reached a mark of 157.5 billion dollars, with national exports of 104.3 billion and imports of 53.2 billion, resulting in Brazil’s surplus of 51.1 billion. Transactions with China accounted for nearly 52 percent of Brazil’s total trade surplus last year.

Brazil and China established a Strategic Partnership in 1993, elevated to a Global Strategic Partnership in 2012.
