Angolan province takes precaution measures to avoid cholera entry

Luanda, Jan 18 (Prensa Latina) Health authorities in the province of Cabinda, in northern Angola, took preventive measures today against the outbreak of cholera in neighboring Zambia and eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

The intensification of epidemiological surveillance at the borders with both countries is part of the actions implemented to prevent the entry of the disease, according to the head of the provincial department of Public Health, Gabriel Zau.

In a report published by Radio Nacional, he stated that they also indicated the reinforcement of surveillance in health centers in the event of the possible appearance of cases of the sickness.

Alert messages calling the population to observe appropriate hygienic measures and to be attentive to the appearance of symptoms are also included among the lines of action implemented by the local authorities.

The cholera outbreak in Zambia, which began in early October, has spread to most parts of the country and has already killed 363 persons, 30 percent of them children.
