One of the survivors of the detonation, Alhahi Mohammed Musa, said that the bombs that exploded in the last few hours in the city of Ibadan would be used in illegal mining by several people, including foreigners, who fled the premises before the incident.
According to the website Vanguard, one of the two deceased by the detonation was a local citizen who had returned from the United Kingdom, but no information was given about the second deceased.
Although authorities are still investigating the causes of the tragedy, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde blamed it on illegal miners by accumulating explosives without authorization.
Accidents in mines are frequent in Nigeria, as illegal miners exploit gold and iron ore deposits, among other resources, without adopting adequate safety measures in those areas.
