According to preliminary information, around 14:00 (local time) on Wednesday, the Suarez was shot down in the northern Guayaquil City on his way to a hearing.

Local media reported that Prosecutor Suarez played a key role in important cases, including investigations for corruption in public hospitals involving Daniel Salcedo, arrested on Tuesday in Panama.

After the armed assault to the TC Television Channel on Tuesday, January 9, Prosecutor Suarez took the case for terrorism against the 11 detainees of that incident, which was the prelude to the declaration of internal armed conflict in Ecuador.

As a result of this executive decree, joint operations of the Armed Forces and the National Police had been intensified, which have left nearly 2,000 detainees, 158 of them arrested for crimes associated to terrorism, according to the most recent official balance.
