The agriculture ministers claimed that it is unfair competition, as cheaper Ukrainian agricultural products drive EU bloc farmers out of their traditional export markets.
According to the request, the signatory nations are among six European Union (EU) member States with the largest wheat and corn productions, which are fundamental to European food security and strategic sovereignty.
Since the EU suspended import quotas and customs duties on grain from Ukraine last year, the countries “have been significantly damaged,” the ministers say.
They also asked the bloc’s executive to examine whether Ukraine’s production guidelines are in line with European standards.
In September, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary announced restrictions on Ukrainian grain imports, but they only apply to domestic imports and do not affect transit to destination markets.
