The meeting is being held at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) headquarters in this capital.
During the event’s opening, Saboto Caesar, from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, said the region is at a turning point due to changes caused by global warming and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rodolfo Pastor, representative of Honduran President Xiomara Castro, said his country recalled the debt owed to a large part of the region’s population to offer essential nutrients.
Honduran Agriculture and Livestock Secretary Laura Suazo spoke about ensuring access to finance for small- and medium-sized agricultural enterprises and moving towards fair trade among the region’s countries.
