At a press conference, broadcast by the PAP news agency, the head of Government noted that he will issue a legislative decree and will formally send it to the National Electoral Commission together with the schedule, although “the decision has already been made.”
Elections have been held every five years in Poland since 2018, in addition to this, in September 2022, President Andrzej Duda extended the term of office of local administrations until April 30, 2024.
On that occasion, the president stated that this decision was due to the separation of dates between the parliamentary and local elections.
Voters will elect the representatives of the assemblies of the various voivodeships (the highest administrative subdivision in Poland), mayors and top leaders of the city councils.
The announcement follows Duda’s rejection of the dismissal of former National Prosecutor Dariusz Barski, who was appointed by Tusk’s predecessor, Mateusz Morawiecki.
