Among those members of political parties and solidarity groups from the Polisario front, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Egypt, China, the United States, Iran, Mozambique and Botswana, among others, are present in the event.
The Cuban delegation to the meeting is headed by Fernando González Llort, Hero of the Republic of Cuba and president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP).
According to the program, the gathering will run until January 17th, with senior political leaders of South Africa and parties and associations in the region speaking out.
The schedule also provides for the meeting of several working commissions dedicated to the debate on the history of the Cuban Revolution and its contribution to the international struggle for a more just and equitable world order.
The continental conclave should make it possible to draw up strategies to strengthen international solidarity movements and actions with Cuba, advance in the union, and strengthen solidarity movements with the island throughout Africa, demonstrating, once again, the fact that Cuba is not alone.
The first meeting of this type was held in South Africa, and was attended by representatives from 12 countries. It was co-chaired by former South African president and anti-apartheid leader, Nelson Mandela, as well as by Sergio Corrieri, president of ICAP at that time, and Father Michael Lapsley, head of the Cuba Friendship Association in South Africa.
