Vice Prime Minister Tapia thanks friends of Cuba in Guatemala

Guatemala City, Jan 14 (Prensa Latina) The Deputy Prime Minister of Cuba Jorge Luis Tapia today thanked friends in Guatemala for the support, solidarity, affection for the people and support for the Revolution on the island.

“The attitude that you assume every day to increase the ties of friendship, cooperation, and brotherhood between the two nations is very stimulating,” said the senior official of the largest island in the Caribbean.

Leading a delegation that will participate in the inauguration of president-elect Bernardo Arévalo, Tapia held a fraternal exchange this morning at the headquarters of the Cuban diplomatic mission with an important representation of academics and artists.

Also present at the interactive meeting were young Guatemalan graduates of the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana, Cubans residing in this Central American territory, sports coaches, among others.

After receiving an update on the situation in the Antillean country, the member of the political party Unidad Revolucionaria Nacional Guatemalteca (URNG-MAIZ) Silvia Solórzano welcomed the delegation and thanked Cuba.

She recalled that “we are now celebrating that the island’s medical brigade in this nation turned 25 years old” and that for us is a great honor for what it facilitated and the lives saved,” she stressed.

The professor of the History school of the Universidad San Carlos de Guatemala Mauricio Chaulón raised his commitment to be able to continue with all the training and improvement projects.

“Because today more than ever we need a more committed Academy, not only with the nation, but also at the regional level, in a Latin America of so many transformations,” added the member who is also the Coordinator of Solidarity with Cuba. The co-president of the Miguel Ángel Asturias Foundation, Sandino Asturias, expressed that he is born to share the legacy of Fidel Castro, who “was a creator of a thought of internationalism that Cuba developed in the world.” We were part of that movement and now in peace we are beneficiaries of a policy of supporting the Guatemalan people through the Medical Brigade, emphasized the grandson of the renowned writer and Nobel Prize winner of this nation.

Evoking the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution is like the central point of this meeting of the fighters of both countries, and Cuba will always be a reference of solidarity, of support, of what can be done in a Revolution, he remarked.

ELAM graduate Jorge González considered this School part of an enormous project, “of which I am proud, and even more so by my children and the people of the villages in the northeastern department of Jutiapa where I work,” he stated.

After listening to more than 10 interventions with ideas and initiatives, the Vice Prime Minister of Cuba called for them to be taken to de facto paths, “they all have a common point, the unity between two peoples and Governments,” he acknowledged.

The island’s delegation will participate this afternoon in the inauguration of Arévalo for the period 2024-2028, a ceremony with heads of government, senior officials, foreign ministers and diplomats from more than 60 countries.
