South Africa to host Continental Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba

Pretoria, Jan 14 (Prensa Latina) Delegations from more than 20 nations will participate in the 7th African Continental Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba in South Africa from January 15 to 17.

Like all six previous meetings, this one, which will be held in Nelspruit, in eastern Mpumalanga province, is expected to advance the unification and strengthening of solidarity movements with Cuba throughout Africa, in addition to demonstrating again that Cuba is not alone.

The presence of delegations from other regions of the world has also been confirmed.

The Cuban delegation at the meeting, whose slogan is “Africa’s Global Commitment to the Cuban Revolution,” will be headed by Fernando González Llort, Hero of the Republic of Cuba and President of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with Peoples (ICAP).

The strategies for strengthening international solidarity movements and actions with Cuba will also be outlined.

That first meeting was held in South Africa with representatives from 12 countries.

Then South African President and anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela, former ICAP President Sergio Corrieri, and Father Michael Lapsley, former president of the Cuba Friendship Association in South Africa (FOCUS), co-chaired the event.
