Extreme weather conditions in the US

Washington, Jan 14 (Prensa Latina) The weather forecast in the United States today has a “plus” sign in snow, wind, deep wind chills and falling temperatures throughout the country, due to arctic air mass.

The polar wave will fall southward over the Midwestern states and the northern plain, accompanied by dangerous cold weather with very low temperatures and wind chill, the Weather Prediction Center of the National Weather Service warned this Sunday.

Below-zero winds will affect much of the country and reach parts of the south next week, he reported.

Blizzards and heavy snowfall are expected over the Great Lakes and parts of New York, he added, and driving conditions will be very risky.

The Service warned that flurries of snow are possible during this day in parts of the Northeast and the mid-Atlantic, and residents of New York City were asked to be prepared as the storms can cause gusts of wind and drastically reduce visibility.

Staying off the roads is the recommendation made by New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

Meanwhile, drone video captured winter conditions in Des Moines, Iowa, where record cold is complicating tomorrow’s caucuses.

Dangerously cold wind chills affecting much of the United States will see some areas, from the Northern Rockies to northern Kansas to Iowa, experience wind chills below -34 degrees Celsius, according to predictions.

Meanwhile, residents of Montana and the Dakotas could endure wind chills as low as -53 degrees Celsius.

Freezing rain in western Oregon would damage trees and power lines, while in areas of the Pacific Northwest and California the precipitation would cause flash flooding in some areas.

Estimates indicate that southern regions of the country may see snow, sleet and freezing rain.
