The replica of the Manaca-Iznaga Tower, the highest recognition granted by that local body, was given to the member of the Party’s Political Bureau, who upon receiving it highlighted the close ties established over two decades with this city and its people.

He spoke of the meaning of these celebrations and confirming the effort made by the municipal authorities to beautify the city and especially the town to “maintain its traditions and preserve the extensive cultural, historical and heritage legacy.”

In his words he highlighted the fact of how Trinidadians have preserved the architectural elements that characterize the historic center of their city such as the tile roofs, including the cobblestones of their streets.

He later called to protect that past as one of the greatest attractions of this tourist destination, which he described as among the most integral in the country, enhanced by its nature and the relationship between the sea and the mountains, a combination that makes Trinidad unique.

The Minister of Tourism, Juan Carlos García, was also recognized for his ties with the territory and his support for the resuscitation of several facilities in the city.

The Solemn Session took place in the Plaza Mayor, and among the symbols present was the certificate granted by UNESCO in 1988 to Trinidad and the Valley of the Ingenios with the status of Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Tania Gutiérrez, president of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power, detailed the comprehensive program carried out on the occasion of the town’s 510th anniversary with works of economic and social impact.

Gutiérrez highlighted the materialization of nearly 300 actions on occasion of the celebrations, which allowed the repair of health, education, commercial, tourism and cultural centers both in the city and in the communities.

Branches of the Palmares Extrahotel Company received recognition, while the Unique Prize for the Arts went to Carlos Enrique Sotolongo, for his work in favor of the conservation of the heritage of the third town founded in Cuba by the Spanish.

The Solemn Session was also chaired by Deivy Pérez, member of the Party’s Central Committee and first secretary in the province, Alexis Llorente, governor of Sancti Spíritus, ministers, and the highest authorities of the central-southern town.

This Sunday several works were inaugurated such as the new headquarters of the Office of the Conservator of the City of Trinidad and the Valley of the Ingenios, the mini aquarium of ornamental fish and The little house of my dreams.
