Damascus reiterates again its full support for Beijing’s efforts to preserve China’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned the attempts at external interference in China’s internal affairs and all provocations and actions that make the situation in the East Asia region more tense and destabilize international security and stability.

Syria considers that Taiwan is an integral part of the People’s Republic of China, and that it should not be affected by any procedure or election held there, the Foreign Ministry concluded in its statement.

The candidate from the ruling and sovereign Democratic Progressive Party, Lai Ching-te, won the 2024 elections in Taiwan on Saturday with 40.05 percent of votes.

In his first speech after his victory, Lai Ching-te pledged to protect the island from what he called “threats and intimidation from mainland China.”

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning stated that her country “firmly opposes” any kind of official exchange between the United States and Taiwan.
