On his first trip abroad since his appointment on Thursday, Séjourné, who is the head of the ruling Renaissance party and the leader of the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament, told the French broadcaster BFM TV that his visit aims to reaffirm lasting support for Ukraine.
Séjourné’s agenda includes a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday.
Zelensky has repeatedly called for more assistance from the West in the conflict with Russia.
France has supplied Ukraine with Caesar guns, light armored vehicles, anti-tank missiles, and radars, aid that Moscow sees as a way to fuel hostilities.
The head of French diplomacy added that he would pay visits to Ukraine to identify the country’s needs.
