We must reduce imports and produce human and animal food, Valdés Mesa said on Friday at a meeting with farmers, technicians, and managers from the Hermanos Barcon Grassroots Business Unit, which is one of the leading productive entities in this western territory.
That structure progresses in winter sowing, as more than 1,000 hectares of root vegetables, vegetables, and cereals should be planted.
Valdés Mesa, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), asked about crop yields and payments to producers based on contracts that, in his opinion, must be objective and conducive to eliminate indiscipline.
Accompanied by Yamilé Ramos, member of the PCC Central Committee and first secretary in Pinar del Río, and Governor Eumelín González, the Cuban vice president recalled the essential role of the municipalities in reducing imports and increasing exports to guarantee local development.
